nomen officii, in Cancellaria Pontificis Roman. cuiusmodi ministri LXXII. ibi sunt a Summariis Supplicationum quoque dicti. Munus illorum est, incumbere ad Bullarum pictacia, apud Macrum Hierolex. dividunturque in tres classes: utpote e quibus duodecim dicuntur de parce maiori, ac Praelati sunt habituque violaceô utuntur; alii viginti duo vocantur de parco minori; reliqui omnes Examinatores appellantur; occupati enim sunt in collatione Bullarum. Ceterum possunt esse Laici ac uxorati. Nomen habent a voce Breve, quae epistolam denotat Pontificiam, vel quia breviori stylô formatur, vel a German: Brieff. In quorum Brevium officio primarius dicitur Protonotarius Abbreviator. Exceptores vero ab excipiendo, istiusmodi ministri in eadem Curia appellantur: quod tamen nomen ad Notarios quoque extenditur, ut quibus in scribendo abbreviationibus uti sollenne est, in Hierolex.
